BACKGROUND
In 1995 the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UCD developed a Diploma in Emergency Medical Technology available to suitably qualified graduates of Emergency Medical Technology (EMT) training programmes run by the National Ambulance Training School (NATS). This landmark agreement between UCD and NATS has resulted in the Diploma in Emergency Medical Technology being awarded to more than 700 members of the ambulance services.

COURSES
The Diploma is awarded each year in an annual ceremony. Almost 900 students have been awarded the Diploma to date.
The Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council has established a register for all EMTs and this went live in 2006.
FUTURE PLANS
Modularisation of this course in accordance with the UCD modularisation programme will be required for 2007.
